Khwaja Ghulam Ahmed took over as the Chairman of Board of Directors of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh on 17/02/2008. Born to a respectable family of Enayetpur in the district of Serajganj in 1949, Mr. Ahmed graduated in electrical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology(BUET) in 1970. He joined Railway Engineering Service in January 1973 and held various important positions in Bangladesh Railway and in the Ministry of Communications. He was also Chairman, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, Chairman Bangladesh Power Development Board, Additional Secretary, Economic Relations Division and finally retired from government service as a Secretary in 2006. Mr. Ahmed also worked extensively as consultant in the areas of procurement and inventory control, human resource management and transport policy under various projects funded by ADB, CIDA and DfID. He is currently Deputy Team Leader and Policy Adviser to the Transport Sector Management Reform Project jointly undertaken by the Planning Commission and the Ministry of Communications.
Mr. Md. Showkat Ali was born in Brahmanbaria on 7th April, 1952. He completed his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 1975 from BUET and started his career in Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) in January, 1976 as Assistant Engineer and hold various important positions in BPDB. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). Mr. Md. Showkat Ali was associated with power distribution, operation & maintenance; System control, system loss monitoring, distribution planning, project planning(Generation & Misc.) including technical assistance project; power station construction; chief staff officer to chairman PDB etc. in his 32 years of service. Presently, he is working as Chairman in BPDB. He is also Director of Board of Directors of Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd.(DPDC). He received a number of trainings on different subjects including engineering, Project accounting, Management, Environmental management, National Income Accounting etc. inside the country. He also got foreign training on Construction Engineering in UK & Public and private partnership training in USA. He participated in various seminar/workshop in China, Malaysia, India, Japan and USA. He also participated in fourth meeting of the SAARC working group on energy in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Born on 6 October 1960, Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmed received his B.Sc. Eng. and M.Sc. Eng. in electrical and electronic engineering respectively in 1982 and 1984 from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He earned his PhD in electrical engineering in 1987 from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), a world-class institution of England following the prestigious award of a commonwealth scholarship. After serving a local consulting firm he joined the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Eng. (EEE) at BUET in 1983 as a Lecturer and became a full professor in 1996. In the period 2000-2003 he was on lien from BUET to serve as a Professor in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru a leading public university in Malaysia. He was the Director (2003-2005)- Centre for Energy Studies at BUET, the Head (2005-06) of the EEE Dept. at BUET and a Director in the Board for Dhaka Electric Supply Co. (DESCO) Limited (1997-2000). Currently he is the Dean of EEE Faculty, BUET, Chairman of Electrical and Electronics Divisional Committee (EEDC) of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, Director in the Board for Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) Limited, and Director in the Board for Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) Limited. He has been providing extensive consultancy services to the power utilities and industries since last 20 years as a member in the expert team of EEE Dept., BUET. In the recent past he served as a resource person in several training programs sponsored by the USAID for the utility engineers and stakeholders in the energy sector of the SAARC countries and by the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) for the technical people engaged in promoting renewable energy at remote rural places in Bangladesh. Also he served as an expert in the national committees to investigate into the blackouts that occurred recently in Bangladesh power system and to recommend effective measures for averting grid failure and/or quick restoration of the system. Prof. Ahmed acted as an invited reviewer for 15 reputed international journals. He has supervised 1 PhD and 9 MSc theses at BUET and UTM, and around 60 undergraduate projects at BUET, UTM and MIST (Military Institute of Science and Technology, Dhaka). He has 58 publications of which 27 are in refereed international journals and monographs, and 20 in international conference proceedings. In recognition of professional standing Prof. Ahmed has been elected to the grade of Senior Member in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) USA ( since 1994), Fellow in the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (since 1996) and Life Fellow in Bangladesh Computer Society (since 1997). He also received the "2nd Annual Research Excellence Award; 1998" from the Southern California Chapter of American Association of Bangladeshi Engineers & Architects (AABEA), USA, “Laureate of the annual (2002) competition” award from the Royal academy of Overseas Sciences, Belgium for the study “Photovoltaic Supplement to Diesel Generator Based Supply in an Off-grid Location of East Malaysia” and "BAS-M.O. Ghani Gold Medal 2003" from Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in recognition of his contributions in the field of electrical and electronic engineering.
Mr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman Manju, a renowned entrepreneur and noted social worker, is a Bachelor of Science from Dhaka University. He also completed his Post-Graduate diploma in Applied Statistics from Dhaka University and Post Graduate Diploma in Management and Administration in U.K. At present he is the Operative Director of Aftab IT Ltd. He is also the Director of AFA steel Industries Ltd. Hi-Tech Spares Ltd, SARM Associated Ltd. He is the proprietor of RIVOLI, a retail and whole-sale garments company. He is also a director of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is a member of the Board of Technical Committee of "South Asian Regional Energy Institute, US Chamber, USA".
Mr. Quazi Faruque, a noted journalist and pioneer of Consumer Right Movement in Bangladesh, was born in 1949. He completed his Masters in Management from Rajshahi University in, 1972. Professionally he is a journalist. At present he is working as a Chief Editor of "Mukto Tathoya" and General Secretary of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB). He has traveled many countries of Asia, Europe and Pacific region and attended the World Summit on Information society (WSIS) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, a renowned Fellow member of the ICAB and the partner of country's one of the prominent Chartered Accountancy Firm " Hoda Vasi Chowdhury and Company". He was born on 1st January, 1957 in a respectable Muslim Family. He completed hisM.Com in Accounting from Dhaka University with the position of First Class in 1979. After completion of his Chartered Accountancy in 1985 from ICAB he has done Phd. in Accounting from University of Wales, U.K in 1996. He also attended various training program at home and abroad. He is specialized in Energy sector and attended a wide range of training program. He conducted financial audit in REB from 2002 to 2004. In his working experience at home and abroad, he served-Rupali Bank Ltd. as IAS specialist, Central Bank of Bangladesh as IAS specialist, World Bank as consultant, Dhaka Bank Ltd. as Consultant, Prime Bank Ltd. for conducting operational audit, Beximco Pharmaceuticals as head of financial systems and HRD.
Engr. Moyeed Roomi, son of late M.R.Bhuiya, was born on 1st March, 1955. He obtained his B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1977. He also got his Post Graduation degree in Industrial and Production Engineering from BUET. At present he is working as the Managing Director of Maxim Ercom Ltd. He also worked as Deputy Chief Engineer (Mechanical), Kohinoor Chemical Company, BCIC and as Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) in Water Development Board. He attended training programs on Productivity improvements in Foundry Industry from Asian Productivity Organization Japan, on Low-cost automation from Asian Productivity Organization, Thailand and workshop on Iron and steel Foundry Technology for supporting Industry from Asian Productivity Organization, Taiwan.
Md. Ruhul Amin, Son of Lt. A.S.M. Abdul Mazid of District Rajshahi completed his graduation degree in Electrical Engineering in the year 1969. He joined EPWAPDA in the year in 1970 as Asstt. Engineer. During his tenure in EPWAPDA / BPDB, he served in the field of Distribution, Communication, Power System Control & Operation etc. He joined in PGCB in the year 2003 and served in Transmission, System Operation, Planning & Design. At present, he is holding the post of Managing Director, PGCB.
