CLDC Technical Information:(Scada Functionality)Master Station

Master station communicate with the RTUs to acquire and convert data to engineering units to maintain the data base and perform all interaction with operation via the workstation MMI. The master station also perform alarm reporting, historical archival of data, and is responsible application programs in the energy management system (EMS).

Master Station (MTU, or Master) is designed around a SCADA host computer (or a redundant pair of computers, in the case of optional, dual-redundant configurations), running the VMS operating system on a DEC Alpha processor.

The computer is equipped with memory, disk, and other resources depending on application and performance requirements. In dual-redundant configurations, the "standby" computer keeps a complete updated copy of the database (it is a "hot standby"), and can take over control any time the master computer is unable to do so. A number of additional computers may be connected to the host(s), to provide additional operating positions. These may be Alpha machines, or Intel machines running Windows NT.

The LDC project has been established by the Bangladesh Power Development Board to monitor the the generation and X-mission systems in 1986, at siddhirgonj

A PC based SCADA (Supervisory control and data acquisition) system was installed at Buiduit Bhavan to give the modern technical support for the system operation in 2001.

SCADA Functionality:

  • Monitoring of analog values of transmission lines, generators and Transformers. (Ampere, Voltage, Active power MW, reactive power Mvar & Frequency)
  • Monitoring of status of Breakers (open, Close).
  • Control of Circuit Breaker remotely for load shedding application.
  • Automatic Generator Control (AGC) on constant frequency mode.

Software Functions

  • Communications
  • Security Features
  • Database Editor System
  • Alarm Processing
  • Historical Collection and Trend Graphs.
  • Report Generation &Scheduling
  • Load Shedding
  • AGC

Hardware of master station:

  • Port combiner module (PCM)
  • Terminal server (Communication Server)
  • Main Server- one is active & another is in stand by .
  • Workstation- For operational person.
  • Map board with single line diagram and BCD display.
  • Event logger
  • Sharing printer
  • Geographical position system clock for system clock synchronization

MMI-World View

  • Windows Environment
  • -Status points
  • -Analog points
  • Operator Displays
  • Full Graphics Drawing tools
  • Display of Dynamic Data fields
  • Alarm Display

The MMI workstation can receive all real time updated data in the map view at dynamic point connected to the server in the local area network (LAN), subsequently application program serves alarms, quality code, network status.

Operators can interface with the central computer through their CRT terminals and display-selected information related to any part of the system under their control.

In addition to data acquisition, the SCADA system assists the operator in executing “control commands” to Open or close breakers, Increase or decrease generator load, and Adjust transformer taps.
